Asthma

  1. OASYS and Occupational Asthma
    This website contains information on Occupational Asthma in general and also on a computer program called OASYS, which is used to help diagnose Occupational Asthma from serial peak flow records. You can also ask the website questions on occupational asthma, for instance a difficult case. The site is run by Prof Burge in Birmingham. The site has a useful Oasys Links Page e for searching on occupational asthma. Includes link to Asmapro which is a French online database that can be searched by causative agent and job description. Other links to HSE asthma website and Raymond Agius’s Website on Occupational Asthma at the University of Manchester.

Chemical databases

  1. Material Safety Datasheets on the Web
    If you are looking for information about chemicals or substances then this is the place to start. A well organised collection of all the links you could need to take you into Safety Datasheets. A must.
  2. Chemfinder
    A very clear, well organised website. Search for your chemical, get its correct names and see its structure. Links to health based websites. Also download the chemdraw package for free (2D only – 3D costs)
  3. Toxbase
    Poisons information. You need to register which is restricted to NHS departments – but seems to work for Occ Health
  4. Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
    Some free stuff but restricted unless you subscribe.

    The Health Protection Agency website – previously accessed as the PHLS website. Very useful. Lots of information. Useful sections include the publications page ( particularly the Communicable Disease and Public Health Journal). Alphabetical index is helpful – such as TB and healthcare workers

    The States Federal agency for protecting peoples health and Safety – has a lot on infections. Publications worth visiting include MMWR

    Has an amount of useful information on various forms of liver disease.
  5. CDC Viral Hepatitis
    Again useful information on Hepatitis A,B,C etc.

    Dowloadable chapters from the Green Book. Is now being updated in sections which will happen on the internet before a new version is published

Work and Compensation

    This section takes you into the portal for accidents, injuries and work-related diseases. Follow the links for advisory leaflets on occupational asthma, asbestos etc. Claim forms are also downloadable from this site. Click on DWP to get back to the main site.
